Groundbreaking set for Friday at Historic Pier 4 on South Boston's iconic waterfront

Construction is underway at Pier 4, a $195 million apartment tower in Boston’s Seaport District, setting the stage for a ground breaking on Friday. The 21-story tower will feature 396 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units as well as 258 underground parking spaces.
Houston-based Hanover Co.’s development will be one of the largest residential developments in the Seaport District, measuring over 400,000 square feet with 10,800 square feet of retail at the base of the tower at Seaport Boulevard and Northern Avenue. A mixed-use project spearheaded by master developer New England Development of Newton, Pier 4 will ultimately include one million square feet of hotel, residential, office, retail and civic uses on 9.5 acres. The Athanas family, which operates Anthony’s Pier 4 Restaurant, has the option to reopen the eatery in leased space in the new building.
